Growth of Superconducting Whiskers

The(1112)and(2212)amorphous strips of Bi(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu oxide were prepared by non-equilibrium solidification of melt-quenching method.A lot of superconducting whiskers have been grown up on the strip at 840-860°C in a stream of oxygen for 50-150 h,which are usually several to 10 odd mm in length,several μm in thick- ness and more than 10μm in width.These whiskers have very excellent flexibility.

The SiC_w/Al composite prepared by squeeze casting has a combination of superior room temperature specific strength and modulus together with excellent thermal properties.The extrusion can make an improvement on the strength and ductility of the composite from 582 MPa as squeeze casted up to 639 MPa,and on the transformation from isotropic to the anisotropic structure.This seems to be explained by the orientation of whiskers and the densification of dislocations in matrix.TEM observation indicates that the stacking fault is the usual planar defect on the SiC_w surface. composite;;SiC whisker;;Al alloy;;microstructure

Technical note: Research and development of localized corrosion rate monitoring instrument for nonpassivable metal in corrosive media

This paper introduces the design of a localized corrosion rate monitoring instrument that can monitor and evaluate the maximum and stable localized corrosion rate of a nonpassivable metal in a corrosive environment by measuring the current density in a corrosion sensor with an occluded anode.

THE CHANGING ROLE OF THE NATIONAL LABORATORIES IN MATERIALS RESEARCH

The role of the National Laboratories is summarized from the era of post World War II to the present time. The U.S. federal government policy for the National Laboratories and its influence on their materials science infrastructure is reviewed with respect to .determining overall research strategies, various initiatives to interact with industry (especially in recent years),building facilities that serve the nation, and developing leading edge research in the materials sciences. Despite reductions in support for research in the U.S. in recent years, and uncertainties regarding the specific policies for Research &Development (R&D) in the U.S., there are strong roles for materials research at the National Laboratories. These roles will be centered on the abilities of the National Laboratories to field multidisciplinary teams, the use of unique cutting edge facilities, a focus on areas of strength within each of the labs,increased teaming and partnerships, and the selection of motivated research areas. It is hoped that such teaming opportunities will include new alliances with China, in a manner similar, perhaps, to those recently achieved between the U.S. and other countries.

A brief review of the nearly 100 year history of Corporate Researeh and Development at GE is presented. Observations on the changing nature and relevance of industrial research are discussed. Examples of current technology projects for aircraft engine materials are reviewed. Emphasis of these projects is placed on high performance,low cost and high quality.

Fabrication of uniform Ge-nanocrystals embedded in amorphous SiO(2) films using Ge-ion implantation and neutron irradiation methods

Uniform Ge-nanocrystals (Ge-ncs) embedded in amorphous SiO(2) film were formed by using (74)Ge(+) ion implantation and neutron transmutation doping (NTD) method. Both experimental and theoretical results indicate that the existence of As dopants transmuted from (74)Ge by NTD tunes the already stabilized (crystallized) system back to a metastable state and then activates the mass transfer processes during the transition form this metastable state back to the stable (crystallized) state, and hence the nanocrystal size uniformity and higher volume density of Ge-ncs. This method has the potential to open a route in the three-dimensional nanofabrication. (C) 2011 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3553770]

116HU聚酯亚胺无挥发浸渍树脂的性能及其在风电上的模拟结构试验

  为解决苯乙烯和甲基苯乙烯在VPI浸渍树脂应用于风力发电机中的不足,采用不饱和聚酯亚胺、引发剂和无挥发活性稀释剂研制出116HU聚酯亚胺无挥发浸渍树脂,并对其各项性能进行了研究。结果表明:116HU聚酯亚胺无挥发浸渍树脂的常规性能满足风力发电机的要求,其耐热等级可达H级。用该树脂浸渍的风电模拟线棒具有优异的介电性能、耐湿热交变和高低温循环冲击性能及耐盐雾性能等,能满足风力发电机在极端环境运行的要求。
